Character-Driven Writing for Fiction and Narrative Nonfiction

Creating Compelling Stories that Move and Inspire

Fridays, March 8–April 26 • 7–9 pm Mountain Time

Amy White & Janet Low

Story analysts, masterclass teachers, and expert storytellers and performers

Toto had it right. He wasn’t distracted by the smoke and spectacle of the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz. He simply tugged back the curtain to reveal what was really going on. Many writing models are distracted by plot when what really drives a story is character.

Having studied the daylights out of plot vs. character, guess what we found: Despite the plentiful pot of plot content, there’s nary been a peep about character structure. That hidden thing that everyone from Aristotle, to Ammonias, to Kant, to Piaget, to Pierce and Saussure, even McKee have felt, but not a one was able to see. With nation-wide surveys and decades of research, the path has become clear, and the secret revealed. It’s time to pull back the curtain, clear away the smoke and mirrors, and finally see what truly makes good story become great. You will never see story the same again.
